The Indian Cultural Centre for Surinamers World Overseas (ICCSWO) was established with a singular vision — to serve as a bridge between India and the vast Indian diaspora in Suriname, the Netherlands, and across the globe.
Our mission is to preserve the richness of Indian traditions — from classical music and dance to yoga and spiritual practices — and make them accessible to anyone who wishes to connect with this heritage.
Connecting Indian diaspora communities across continents through cultural exchange, educational programmes, and community events.
Actively reviving ancient Indian art forms — classical ragas, folk traditions, and spiritual practices — for modern audiences across the world.
A growing, warm community of culture enthusiasts, learners, and heritage seekers — united by a shared love of Indian traditions.
The story of ICCSWO begins with a deep yearning — felt by generations of Indian descendants in Suriname — to reconnect with their ancestral roots. Over time, many traditions had faded, songs were forgotten, and dances became memories.
ICCSWO was founded to reverse this cultural erosion. Through the establishment of the Pandit Balram Pathak Music Academy and our network of cultural programmes, we have enabled hundreds of students to learn sitar, tabla, classical dance, and yoga — creating a living bridge between India and Suriname.
Today, our work extends beyond education. We facilitate cultural tours, provide community services, and organise festivals that celebrate India's diversity — all with the belief that culture is the strongest bond between peoples.
These guiding principles shape every programme, event, and initiative at ICCSWO.
We honour the true essence of Indian traditions — no shortcuts, no dilution.
Indian culture belongs to everyone — we welcome learners of all backgrounds.
From teaching to travel, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality.
Everything we do is rooted in collective growth and mutual respect.
